How much do you think I will need

Hi Guys. I am new to this forum so I don't know

I'm heading to India for a while (First Time!) and I was wondering how much money I'll need. I llooking to travel pretty dam cheaply, dormitories etc. And I know that it's different for everybody but I was looking for a ballpark figure.

I've have read loads of guides that have given me prices for food, clothing etc...but they all seem fairly old and outdated.

Do you guys think I can make it on $1200 Australian for 2 months?
Food, travel, beer, entertainment...etc...

Please give you honest opinion as I'm getting a bit nervous about this whole thing

Hi Sarah11 and welcome to our forums! In response to your query I think that $1200, should be absolutely sufficient.

When I was out there I just used got out my calculator, did some maths and wrote out a daily budget: it worked pretty well.

I went with pounds, but I think the amount you are talking about is about 750. I went for five months with little over £1000 so I think you should be ok! It is seriously cheap out there and the beauty of it is, - you can always find things cheaper.

Hi Sarah - having been there on a rather 'spoilt' and swept up into 'air conditioned buses' holiday (not too proud to have been on such a trip but it certainly made me love and be amazed by the culture, the colours and the character of the country) I would say that you could spend as little or as much as you like - the culture there is to survive so obviously there are loads of scams etc - these people are only trying to survive! It is ridiculously cheap and the comment that you can always find it cheaper is totally true .. have fun, be sensible, use common sense and you will find that this is a fabulous, hectic and extraordinary country - good luck
